Eagerly waiting to fulfill your dreams

I just spent the last year and a half at the most incredible job: Disability Services and Deaf Support for the LDS Church. It was a life-changing experience. My work was full of meaning. I gained perspective of the challenges and strengths of members around the world. My co-workers had such vision of the inherent value of each member. I could not have had a more incredible experience!

3 weeks ago, after a lot of prayer, I quit my job.

It's hard to convey to people why I felt this was the right thing to do. After all, the Church was more than willing to work with my health challenges, it was a steady job, and it had the variety I needed to not go stir-crazy. These were all wonderful reasons to stay and why this decision was a difficult one.

But I have realized three things about myself in the last two years:

1. I am a hands-on person who wants to serve in the remote areas of the Church.

2. I want to work online so that my limited energy can be reserved for a variety of opportunities.

3. I want to help others learn how to work online so they can reach their dreams too.

I have always been pulled between whether to pursue my dreams or whether to only do what the Lord asks. He has always managed to lead me to opportunities that involved my dreams and passions. But the last two years have taught me that these my dreams and His will are not incongruent.

I found a quote by Jeffrey R. Holland that best helped me understand the role between dreams and doing His will: "God is eagerly waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has."

When the Lord says to do something, I will most certainly do it. But when He is quiet and letting me make some decisions on my own, I know I can go for my dreams!

Starting is one of the steps to this dream. It's bold and a lot more personal than is in my nature. But I'm eager to lead anyone who is interested through my journey to serve in the remote areas of the world, to set up online projects that allow me to support myself, and to help others reach their own dreams.
