One rule for first full working drafts:
get them done ASAP.
Don't worry about quality. Act, don't reflect. Momentum is everything.
Get to THE END as if the devil himself were breathing down your neck
and poking you in the butt with his pitchfork.
Believe me, he is.
- Steven Pressfield
Do the Work
I've been working on a book for two years. Two years.
A day here. A day there. A mad sprint every month or two.
Then I read Do the Work and within a matter of three weeks, my entire working draft is complete.
What made all the difference?
Impossible Deadline. Blind Eyes to Mistakes. Daily Accountability.
Placing the perfectionist Destiny aside, I followed the advice:
GET TO THE END.
Too many partial drafts are found on computers and in dusty files.
I, myself, have quite a collection.
Our number one priority must be getting that first draft done.
We can't afford to not make it our priority.
What impossible deadline will you set today to save yourself two years?
