Today is the Day of Niches

One of the most successful examples of online niche business is www.BackYardChickens.com.

The owner had always wanted to have chickens. The only problem was, he lived in the city. He built a coop that fit outside his window and began sharing what he learned about raising chickens in the city online.

Now, 20 years ago, if you were to start a business for people wanting to own chickens in the city, everyone would think it was the worst idea on the planet. And they'd be right! There would never be a demand large enough in one city to justify the expenses of renting an office space and marketing materials through magazines and newspapers.

However, the internet has changed everything.

Today is the day of niches.

While there may never be enough city chicken lovers in Phoenix, Arizona, there are MANY chicken lovers in New York, San Fransisco, Bombay, London, and Budapest. The internet has allowed city chicken lovers from around the globe to purchase supplies online through www.BackYardChickens.com - and this site is very successful as a result.

The internet has created a wonderful platform for atypical hobbies and passions. In fact, in most cases, the more weird your idea is, the more likely you will be succeed. You will own that niche.

And that's the point, the more specific your niche, the more likely you are to own all the demand.

Which of your passions and hobbies could you turn into a niche business online? What would give you joy as a supplemental income (or possibly your primary income?)
